1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, or to work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site’s owner. Similar technologies (like pixels, web beacons and local storage) are also covered by this policy.
2. Why I use cookies
I use cookies to:
- Keep the website running properly (“strictly necessary” cookies).
- Remember your preferences — such as your cookie consent choice.
- Understand how visitors use the site so I can improve it (analytics).
- Protect against fraud, spam and abuse.
3. Categories of cookies I use
I group cookies into four categories:
- Strictly necessary — these are required for the website to function. They cannot be switched off in my systems. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as submitting a contact form.
- Preference — these remember choices you make (such as accepting cookies) so you don’t have to make them again.
- Analytics / performance — these help me understand how visitors interact with the site by collecting and reporting information anonymously. Common providers include Google Analytics.
- Marketing — if I use any (currently I do not run paid ads), these would be used to make advertising messages more relevant. They are set only with your consent.
4. Specific cookies
The cookies in use may change over time as the website evolves. The current list includes:
- Webflow (website host) — sets a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep the site running, secure form submissions and detect bot traffic. These cannot be disabled without breaking the site.
- Google Analytics (if enabled) — sets cookies such as
_ga, _ga_*, and _gid to measure how the site is used. Data is processed in an aggregated and pseudonymised way. Lifetime: up to 13 months. - Embedded content — if you view an embedded YouTube video, Instagram post or LinkedIn share button, those services may set their own cookies. Their own privacy and cookie policies apply.
5. How to control cookies
You have several options:
- Cookie consent banner — when you first visit, you can accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time by clearing cookies for this site and reloading.
- Your browser settings — every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies. Note that disabling all cookies may make parts of the site (such as the contact form) stop working.
- Opt-out tools — you can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
For more information about cookies in general, including how to see what cookies have been set, visit aboutcookies.org or allaboutcookies.org.
6. Changes to this policy
I may update this Cookie Policy when the cookies in use change or when guidance from regulators (the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK) changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page will reflect the most recent change.
